2. Stranger / Secret Forest (South Korea) — Netflix
An emotionally detached prosecutor teams up with a detective to unravel deep institutional corruption. Quiet, intelligent, and deeply satisfying. Two seasons, both excellent.
3. Fauda (Israel) — Netflix
An Israeli undercover unit infiltrates Palestinian militant groups. Morally complex, viscerally tense, and humanising on all sides. One of the best action-thrillers streaming today.
4. Money Heist / La Casa de Papel (Spain) — Netflix
A criminal mastermind leads a crew of thieves in an audacious heist on the Spanish mint. Became a global phenomenon for good reason — propulsive plotting and memorable characters throughout its first two seasons especially.
5. The Bridge / Broen (Denmark/Sweden) — Walter Presents, Mubi
A body is found on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, split exactly at the border — meaning both countries' police must cooperate. The original Scandinavian noir procedural, with a genuinely iconic lead character.
6. Lupin (France) — Netflix
A modern reimagining of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, set in contemporary Paris. Stylish, clever, and enormously fun. Omar Sy is magnetic in the lead role.
7. Babylon Berlin (Germany) — Netflix, Mhz Choice
Set in 1929 Weimar-era Berlin, this neo-noir period thriller combines political intrigue, organised crime, and jazz-age atmosphere in a way that no other show has managed. Lavishly produced.
8. Signal (South Korea) — Viki, Netflix
A walkie-talkie allows a present-day criminal profiler to communicate with a detective from 1989. They work together to solve cold cases — with consequences that ripple across time. One of the best-constructed thriller narratives in K-drama history.
9. Gomorrah (Italy) — Sky Atlantic / Now, Mhz Choice
A brutal, unflinching look at the Neapolitan Camorra crime organisation. Operates more like a Greek tragedy than a crime procedural. Not for the faint of heart, but utterly compelling.
10. Bordertown / Sorjonen (Finland) — Netflix
A Finnish detective with exceptional pattern-recognition abilities moves his family to a quieter town — only to find it sitting on a hotbed of cross-border crime. Atmospheric, dark, and underrated.
